Sometimes it is very difficult to get along with your boyfriend's parents, but it is often a necessity to say in your boyfriend's good graces. Here are some tips to help you get along:

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Listen. Make an honest effort to understand them. Many mothers love to talk, so listen and find out everything you can about them and your significant other. This is a great way to better understand what makes them the way that they are and why they do the things that they do.

  2. Step 2

Open up. After you have met them a couple of times, odds are you are going to have alone time where you are going to have to spend time one-on-one with his parents. Make small talk, but also tell them about you and what makes you who you are. It will make you get along better.

  3. Step 3

Understand that you do not have to be best friends, or even friends. Your only obligation is to get along well enough to be social with once another when the situation requires. Ideally you will be close. However, that just may not happen. Just be as polite and friendly as possible.

  4. Step 4

If it just won't work, try to figure out why and fix the problem. If needed, as your significant other for advice, he knows them well and may be able to fix it.
