Tips on Public Speaking

The fear of public speaking can be overwhelming. For whatever reason, thousands of people are quite simply terrified at even the thought of speaking in front of a large crowd. If this is you, consider these tips that will help you overcome your fear of public speaking in no time!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice - The most important thing you can do to overcome fear of public speaking is to know your topic forwards and backwards. You must be able to talk about your content, not merely recite it from memory. People have a tendency to fear forgetting their content much more than any other thing. If you really know your content this no longer represents a real problem. Now you can focus on truly providing useful content to your audience.

  2. Step 2

Visualize Your Ultimate Success - Never discount the power of positive thinking! Take a few minutes while you are practicing your speech to visualize your success. The fear of public speaking prevents many people form having the rare opportunity to receive public praise. Besides merely practicing your speech, practice experiencing success.

  3. Step 3

Do Not Take Yourself Too Seriously - Unless public speaking is what you do as a profession, this speech will not make or break the future of your life. If you mess up, forget about it. I can promise you that you will remember your mistakes much longer than your audience will.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get a good nights rest before your speech. Many public speaking fears can be prevented by acting is if it were just another day.
