The millions of AARP members afford the group a great deal of purchasing power, and with that comes significant benefits and discounts. One discounted service members enjoy is car rentals, but it can often be difficult to find the best deal.
Access the AARP website and join if you are not a member. Read about all eligible discounts and requirements for memberships. Even if you are not a member, you can compare car-rental deals. If the discounts give you any advantages, you may want to join. See the link in the Resources section to compare.
Determine the dates for your car rental and the size of car needed. Also, decide if you need insurance to go with your rental vehicle.
Find car rental deals under the AARP travel tab (see Resources). Go over the six choices provided: Alamo, Avis, Hertz, Budget, National and Enterprise car rentals. Each car rental company offers between 5 percent and 25 percent discounts. Use the promotional code provided by each company to get a total estimate for renting a car. You can also call a toll-free number provided on the AARP site to get quotes. Make sure to provide the same rental dates and car models when getting a quote.
Compare car rental costs among all six companies. After you are provided with the rental estimates, compare them and rank them from lowest to highest to help you select the best option.
Use online travel booking services such as Priceline, Travelocity and Expedia to get car rental quotes. These services offer discounted car rentals you can compare to those provided by AARP. Choose a car rental company and find out the cost to rent a car using the quote form. Compare the results to the quotes obtained from AARP and book the best deal for your car rental dates.
