How to Unfreeze/Reset iPod Nano

If your iPod Nano gets stuck and will not respond when you attempt to press a button, try these steps to unfreeze it. Always refer to the user manual that came with the device when available, but if you can keep in mind this quick method, you should be able to reset your iPod Nano with little effort.

• iPod Nano (all gens)

1. Check to make sure your "Hold" switch is in the off position. If you see orange beneath the switch, the Hold is engaged and must be switched before proceeding to Step 2.

2. Press and hold the Pause/Play button for several seconds. If your iPod turns off, your problem should be solved. If nothing happens, proceed to Step 3.

3. Press and hold the Pause/Play button AND the Select button (the center of the wheel) at the same time. Hold for several seconds until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. This should reset your Nano.

4. Sometimes it is necessary to connect the iPod to your iTunes program, as you do when you sync it. There is an option in iTunes to reset your iPod to its original settings. When all else fails, use this option to reset your iPod Nano.

• When you are not using your iPod, keep the Hold switch engaged to prevent you from accidentally waking up the device and depleting battery life.
