Step 1
Clean the surface. It is important to always clean the surface of the area that you plan to paint and caulk. Once the surface has been power washed or scrubbed with a washrag, allow it to fully dry before you start caulking any imperfections.
-
Step 2
Hammer any protruding nails so that they are flush with the wall.
-
Step 3
Fill all nail holes with caulk. Make sure that the entire nail hole is filled to ensure proper wall sealant.
-
Step 4
Wipe away excess caulk with your finger or a wet rag. The caulk can be raised slightly above the surface of the wall but try to swipe at least a bit of the excess away in the direction of the surface (wood grain, etc.)
-
Step 5
Let the caulk dry. Allow at least 24 hours for the caulk to dry (read the label on the caulking gun for exact times) before you begin painting.
