Online homeschooling has many advantages. It offers flexibility, a customized education, and promotes self directed learning. Also known as distance learning; online homeschooling is also great to supplement your current curriculum.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Understanding Online Homeschooling
Many are against online homeschooling because they feel the child is not learning effectively. With technology today, there are graphic intense lessons that not only allow the child to understand a lesson, but actually SEE how or why something works. Many online homeschool programs encourage students to engage in groups activities, debates, and discussions. What a great way for your homeschoolers to interact with other homeschoolers GLOBALLY!

  2. Step 2

    Support
Benefit from teacher and staff support. Most online homeschool academies offer support from academic to testing to technical support. You and your child also have easy access to course schedules, worksheets, grades, etc.

  3. Step 3

    Search & Compare
Do a search for online homeschooling. There are quite a bit of academies and programs to choose from. Determine which one works best for you and your child. Compare everything from curriculum, support, whether they are accredited, pricing, materials and books included, grading structure, and more. It is also a good idea to be able to evaluate some courses either online or see printouts of sample work your child will be doing. Opt for a program that helps to customize your childs curriculum and lessons based on their knowledge with placement tests. Many offer this free of charge, some may charge a fee.

  4. Step 4

    Register
Once you have found the perfect program, start the registration process. You can usually register online. Ask about any type of financing or financial aid that may be available for you. Make sure you understand all the fees involved before handing over your credit card information. Understand completely what is involved as far as subjects being covered, materials included, and also make sure if classes are on certain schedules or they offer 100% flexibility. Once you have completed registration, you will be notified via email with instructions to get started. Some academies will send materials and/or a welcome kit in the mail. Help your child stay on course.

Tips & Warnings
  • I do not recommend 100% online homeschooling. Combine with real-life experiments, reading, writing, field trips, etc. Enhance your childs senses in the natural world.
