Things You'll Need:
- A computer with Internet access
- A Digg or a Facebook account
-
Step 1
Digg - an overview.
Digg is a social news website, as defined by Wikipedia. What does that mean? It means Digg is used by it's users to spotlight news articles or websites that they think are important to other users of Digg. When you "digg" a site, it is then placed into the appropriate category on digg for other users to "digg" or review. If a site gets a lot of "diggs" it will receive a lot of attention from the who's who and the what's whats. You know. Drive traffic. That's what it's all about. -
Step 2
Get a Digg account.
To use Digg, you'll need a Digg account, which means you have to register yet again for yet another site... But if, like me, you're tired of all this registration and keeping up with user names, and passwords, and the like - then you can connect to Digg through your Facebook account. Simply click on the connect to Facebook icon, sign into Facebook if you're not already signed in, and your profile will be populated with your Facebook info. If you follow this step, you will have to use the connect to Facebook link everytime you Digg. But if you live on Facebook, like I do, that's no big deal and it saves you the time of registration. -
Step 3
Submitting a story on Digg.
It took me a day or two to get use to Digg. When you're logged into Digg, there is a feature at the top right of your screen that says "Submit New" - click on this link. This will take you to the Digg submission page. Here you will enter the story's URL, and indicate whether it's a news article, image or video. Then click on the submit button. There will be a short delay while they "digg" through your submission. If similar submission are found, the system will ask you to verify whether your submission is new and unique or whether it already has been Dugg. If it's already been "dugg" then you can click on the digg link next to the story's title to add to the tally. If it's really a new submission, then simple click on the "my story has no duplicates" link. -
Step 4
Advanced Diggin'.
Unlike some traditional virtual bookmark sites, Digg allows you to have "friends" and therefore you can build somewhat of a social network on this site as well. When you intially sign up, it will ask if you want to link to friends from other sites such as your Facebook account. Those friends who link to your Digg profile can follow the stories that you've dugg and vice-versa. Following me? Basically, you're letting your friends know what you like to read, track and follow on the web. If you're an expert in your field, have a product or service to promote, or you're just a social media junkie like me - then Digg is the place to be dugg!
