If someone has requested that you write a letter of recommendation for them, don't panic,writing such a letter is not as complicated as you may think. The following steps will advise you on how to get started in putting together a stellar letter of recommendation.
Know the person that you are writing the letter of recommendation for. When writing such a letter it is important that you have a sense of that the person's intentions are at the college, job, or whatever he/she needs the letter of recommendation for. Have a face to face with whoever is requesting the letter to better understand where they are and what their plans are.
Assess what the letter of recommendation is for. Is it for a job, school, personal reference? Be sure to focus the letter around the point of what particular purpose you are writing the letter for. This may seem like common sense but you would be surprised at how many people go off topic and start listing irrelevant information on the person they are writing the letter for.
Do some research on what you are writing the letter of recommendation for. If you are writing the letter as a recommendation for a particular job, research that job to see the qualifications and requirements that should be present within the letter of recommendation. This gives you an idea of what the employer wants to see and what you should be including in your letter.
Before you put pen to paper and start writing the letter of recommendation, be sure to check out a few sample letters, such letters can be found quite easily through a simple Google search. A sample letter of recommendation will show you the proper format, heading, and content that should be in the letter.
Include the following in your letter of recommendation :
How you know the person you are writing the letter for
Three to four positive qualities about the person
Qualifications, extra curricular activities, etc.
Conclude with why you personally feel this person is qualified
Order all required information in your letter as laid out by the sample letter of recommendation you looked up.
