Things You'll Need:
- Pay attention
- Listen
- Empathy
-
Step 1
lightbulb momentBy listening to people, you can gather critical information about what makes them unique. Do they like horses, flamingoes, dogs? Do they have little or grown-up kids; do they like Mexican food...take mental notes.
-
Step 2
just do it!If you must, jot down notes in your planner on your friends/family and folks who mean something to you. This way, when you are wanting to do something nice for someone, consult your notes and put together a little "care package" for that person. It can be as simple as their favorite chewing gum, or as elaborate as a bag of their favorite groceries. Having ideas at your disposal and knowing what truly makes someone smile will make you both feel great. It's in giving that we receive.
-
Step 3
let 'em know you care!If something comes up for someone you care about such as a crisis, death in the family, separation, or any number of life's mysterious happenings, being a good friend and going that extra step by showing them you are concerned with a note, card, or call will make all the difference to that person.
-
Step 4
smile! It really is simple to reach out to another person, and it takes so little effort which goes a long way. Why not try it today and boost your mood while uplifting someone else at the same time? Hey, it doesn't even have to cost money, it can be a hug or a smile, across the sidewalk to a stranger....
