Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water Polo Balls
  • Water polo balls
  1. Step 1

Swim hard freestyle, head high, to a position in which your shooting arm is free of the defense.

  2. Step 2

Drop your hips quickly to a vertical position and eggbeater yourself high in the water.

  3. Step 3

Raise your shooting arm out of the water to make a target for your passer to throw to. Call out if the passer doesn't see that you're open for the pass.

  4. Step 4

Catch the ball and let the force of the pass and the weight of the ball carry your arm back into a cocked throwing position.

  5. Step 5

Shoot the ball immediately, before you sink back down in the water. Shoot from the shoulder and aim for a corner of the goal. Upper corners are best.

  6. Step 6

Follow through with your shot and immediately continue swimming after the ball. A blocked shot will often return to your area so be ready for a second shot.

Tips & Warnings
  • The rear back shot is a fast shot so don't pump-fake the goalie on this type of shot. Try to fire your shot off before she's ready.
  • Be careful where you position yourself before you catch the pass. Once you're holding the ball, your arm is fair game for a defender.
  • If you have any condition that could impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
