Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • String
  • 2 cups cane sugar
  • Water
  • Pot
  • Glass jar
  • Pencil
  • Paper clip
  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of string about 3 inches shorter than your jar.

  2. Step 2

Tie your paper clip to the end of the string. The paper clip should hang about an inch from the bottom of the jar.

  3. Step 3

Fasten the string to the middle of the pencil. Make sure when the pencil rests on the jars edge the paper clip is still about an inch from the bottom of the jar.

  4. Step 4

Moisten the string and paper clip with water and then sprinkle some sugar on them. This will help the first crystals begin to form.

  5. Step 5

Bring one cup of water to a boil on the stove.

  6. Step 6

Once the water is boiling quickly stir in 2 cups of cane sugar. Keep stirring until all of the sugar is completely dissolved.

  7. Step 7

Pour your sugar water into the jar and hang your paper clip into it. Within a few days you should start to notice crystals beginning t form on the string. The longer you wait, the bigger it will grow. Enjoy!
