make Chili with BBQ Sauce

Making Chili with BBQ sauce, lean beef can be as easy as 1-2-3.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dutch Oven
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Lean Beef/Turkey
  • Canned Diced tomatoes or fresh tomatoes
  • Preferred BBQ sauce
  • Tomato Sauce/Pasta Sauce
  1. Step 1

Using a Dutch oven with a light coating of olive oil brown your lean beef using between one or two pounds of ground beef depending on your preferences for beef or none at all for non-meat eaters. Substituting with ground turkey is possible if you so desire.

  2. Step 2

While your meat is browning now is the time to “fix” your BBQ sauce. Normally when fixing the sauce I would sweeten it with brown sugar but in the case of Chili, I will use the honey sweet & tangy I have chosen for the sauce. Mix some of the BBQ sauce with some of the tomato sauce I am using a name brand pasta sauce with mushrooms in it.

  3. Step 3

Time to mix in your sauce, dice tomatoes or whole tomatoes if you prefer using between and sixty ounces of diced.

Fold in your sauce/diced tomatoes then let it set for a few minutes before adding the tomato/BBQ sauce mixture.

  4. Step 4

Let simmer on two or three for several hours then, just before serving turn up the heat to seven or eight for those who like their soups warmer temperature wise.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to brown beef then drain grease off
  • Always taste test your BBQ sauce/pasta sauce combo to check for preference in taste
  • Using a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce you won't necessarily have to add chili powder
  • Adding a dash of hot sauce will add just a touch more tangy flavor to your chili
  • Use a long handled wooden spoon to avoid burning hands while stirring/browning meat
  • Be careful after you have let the chili simmer with the lid on steam will evacuate when you lift it off
  • Use caution when adding hot sauce/chili powder others may not have your taste preference
