Things You'll Need:
- baking soda
- fabric softener sheets
- women's magazine inserts
-
Step 1
Let's talk about your lingerie drawers first. Instead of buying those expensive fragrance sheets for these drawers, place a fabric softener sheet in the drawer. We all have some women's magazines hanging around. Take that page that houses a sample of a new perfume and tear the page out. Open up the tab that houses the fragrance. Lay the magazine sheet perfume side down, under the clothing in the drawer. Works very well. Do this only if the scent is appealing to you of course.
-
Step 2
If you are preparing to store sweaters, seasonal clothing or garage sale clothing, place a fabric softener sheet in the container or bag. When you take them out, they won't have that stored up smell.
-
Step 3
Now to the refrigerator. Clean your refrigerator well using 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water. Wipe down everything including shelves and drawers. Don't forget to take those drawers out for washing. You may be surprised as to what is under them. Clean the gaskets around the door well with soap water. Once you do this, wipe them well with full strength vinegar to prevent mildew. If you have a drip pan under your refrigerator, you need to check it too to see if things may be growing in there. Clean it well also using the vinegar. Once your refrigerator is cleaned inside and out, place an open box of baking soda inside the refrigerator on the back of one of the shelves. This keeps it clean. The same procedure should be done on a freezer.
-
Step 4
Next time you purchase garbage bags, purchase the scented ones. They are making them for each size of garbage can that you have in your home.
Bags for the vacuum cleaner comes scented also and it leaves a fresh smell as you vacuum. -
Step 5
If your pet has an accident, clean it up well. If there is still an offensive odor, dampen a rag with ammonia and rub the area well. This will not only eliminate the odor, but will also prevent the pet from doing this again in that area.
-
Step 6
Now that our hidden areas are taken care of, we know that we can always rely on scented candles and such to freshen the air in the house. Taking Fabreeze and spraying draperies and cushions helps also.

on 11/29/2009 Good advice as usual, CajunGurl. You can also put those dryer sheets in your shoes to freshen them up between wearings. (eHow removed my article on that!) 5*
