Health Insurance reform is a hot topic in our nation right now. This is because many have taken this opportunity to play politics and use scare tactics to prevent reasonable people from making an intelligent decision about family health insurance; Let's investigate some of the hard issues even private health insurance and how it impacts your financial standing as a consumer.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need:

  • Open Mind
  • Computer
  • Pencil
  • Pad
  1. Step 1

The first step is to step away from all of the talk show hosts and congressman, and examine the information for yourself. If you must read the entire bill, it is available on the white house website. www.whitehouse.gov. Look under the caption health care. In addition, the white hose has provided a site that will address many of the issues that I will share with you. Remember your first priority is to understand the debate about Health Care Insurance.

  2. Step 2

Determine what you already know about your own Health Insurance.

Do you currently like the premiums that you are paying? Have your premiums increased significantly over the last ten years? If you are happy with your premiums then maybe you will not desire Health Insurance Reform.

  3. Step 3

Decide if Health Insurance companies were in competition with a better and more economic insurance choice, would that lower your premiums.

Right now, United Health CEO makes $100,000 an hour. Can you believe that? If United Health and other companies had to compete with a more reasonable premium cost, don't you think United Health would have to come down on its cost to survive?

  4. Step 4

Determine if you want more choice and variety in health Insurance.

If you like your current health insurance, you can keep it. The only thing that will change over time is the cost of your premium. They will go down. If you want to select another health insurance plan that may offer better benefits, etc.. then you can. Competition is good. Companies will be forced to fight for your business.

  5. Step 5

Determine if you believe the myths proposed by those in opposition to reform.

Health Insurance reform will not lead to health care service rationing. Do you honestly believe that that would stand in this country? Health Insurance reform will not lead to veterans losing their benefits. In fact, there are proposals to make it better for the men and women that have sacrificed so much.

  6. Step 6

Determine if you want to take the burden of cost off of small businesses.

Small business that provide its employees with health insurance struggle to pay the premium amounts. Would it not be better if they saw a decrease in the cost in health insurance for their employees? Especially those that gross less than $500,000. per year? In return employers would be able to hire more staff. More Jobs!

  7. Step 7

Determine if providing health insurance for the less fortunate is worth it.

First of all, this is America. We believe in taking care of our own people. This is the richest country in the World. We should not allow our people to die, suffer, and become terminally ill because they are poor. Secondly, understand that if our fellow Americans go to the emergency room, we will still have to pay because the hospitals must spread the costs. We would spend much less subsidizing the cost of health insurance for our fellow Americans than paying absorbing cost from constant emergency room visits that have skyrocketing costs.

  8. Step 8

Determine if our Senior Citizens are being targeted or informed appropriately as it relates to health insurance.

    1. Seniors are already using a government run health insurance company-Medicare. Are our seniors happy with medicare? For the most part, probably so. One provision for the health insurance reform is to close the dough-nut gap. This will ensure that are seniors do not put out more money for medical procedures. In addition, there is no provision for seniors to die or face any death panel. If you are a senior, you can decide how you want your doctor to handle you if you are in a medical situation that is life or death. You decide if you want them to do everything that they medically can do to revive you and keep you alive, or if you cant them to allow you to die peacefully if all that they can do has failed. Your life is in your hands, not the hands of the doctors. They only thing that the proposal wants to cut is wasteful spending in medicare. This has nothing to do with your services.
