How to Find Home Prices With Zillow

You can shop online for a house.

When the real estate market is down is a good time to buy. Finding an incredible deal on a house can be difficult when weeding through listings in newspapers or other publications, but online search tools, such as Zillow.com, allow you to find home prices quickly. In addition, you can narrow down your search by relevant factors, such as price and size.

Instructions

1. Navigate to zillow.com.

2. Enter the ZIP code of the area in which you want to look for a home in the Find Homes box, then click "Go." A map will populate with listings of homes for sale in the area you specified. Home prices of for-sale properties will be indicated by a small red house.

3. Zoom in by clicking the "+" on the top right of the screen to look at an area more closely. If the area you search has too many home prices, the map will not list specific homes unless you zoom in further.

4. Use the filters on the left side of the screen to narrow down your search. Enter dollar amounts for your price range and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you desire. Click white space on the page to make the map refresh with a new list of home prices based on your search parameters.

Tips & Warnings

• Zillow lists home price estimates for many homes -- those that are for sale and those that are not for sale. This number can be used as a rough estimate of home values in the area, but don't rely on the estimate to give an accurate measure of a sale price.
