Things You'll Need:
- small wet/dry vac appropriate cleaner soft plastic bristle brush
-
Step 1
Determine what the dirty spot on your carpet is: for example, if it is animal goo (vomit, urine, feces), you know all these substances will clean with water based cleaners. If it is grease, oil, etc. you will need the appropriate cleaner. More times than not, 409 will clean it up, even if it is greasy.
-
Step 2
Determine the makeup of your rug, or carpet. Some stuff does not like getting wet, but hey, it is already too late for the perfect world scenario.....Never use bleach, or substances containing bleach....Liek I said, 409.
-
Step 3
Here is the real trick....Since you have the small wet vac handy, you need not worry about getting it too wet. And you also will not be just pushing the funk down into the rug. You will actually get the funk out.
Go adead and pick up the chunks, of course. Then use 409 liberally...pour it on.....then suck it up, within 30 seconds.
Then do it again....get it good and wet. If it is stubborn, use a soft plastic bristle brush and scrub lightly, in straight lines, not circles. You will ruin the pile if you scrub in circles.
Then suck it up again with the wet vac.
After you have gotten it all up, then get some clear water, wet it down again, and suck it up again. Try to do as little scrubbing as possible. If your rug is overall kind of dirty or older, there will likely be a clean spot where you are working. Just wet a larger area around the spot, and wet vac it up, to blend in the clean spot.
Dont walk on it until it dries....And put the dog outside....!!!!!
