How to Wire Emergency Vehicle Tail Lights

Simple instructions on how to wire emergency lights to your trailer or tow vehicle.

Things You'll Need

• Set of trailer lights
• Electrical tape
• Wire cutter/stripper
• Extra fuses

Instructions

1. Purchase a good quality emergency or trailer light kit. These can be purchased at an online auto parts store, marine store, or a general retailer. Buying a high quality kit will avoid lots of problems and headaches.

2. Follow the instructions to connect the emergency lights to the wiring of your existing vehicle. Be careful not to cross wires and don't cut completely through any wires on your vehicle.

3. Check all the connections and make sure you followed the directions before testing your lights. If there is a problem, you may need to replace a fuse in your vehicle. If this happens, recheck all of your connections.

4. After testing that your lights are working properly, use the electrical tape to tape up all the connections and all the wires. Be sure that none of the wires will rub against any of the car parts.
