Step 1
Make reservations very early in advance, especially if it a popular campsite. Make sure you ask if there is plenty of shade where your spot is and that you are close to the bathrooms.
-
Step 2
Plan a menu ahead of time so you remember what food you need to bring. Don’t count on restaurants being around your campground.
-
Step 3
Bring plenty of firewood and kindling for a long lasting fire and for s'mores.
-
Step 4
Bring hand soap and a dishtowel to wash your hands, because most of the bathrooms do not have soap to wash your hands with.
-
Step 5
Most campgrounds allow pets, so ask ahead of time so you can bring your pet!
-
Step 6
Bring a plastic table cover for the picnic table and put your food in sturdy containers that animals cannot get into. Bring plenty of water to drink.
-
Step 7
Bring sunscreen and bug repellent if needed. Bring a deck of cards or a game like UNO to play at the campground.
-
Step 8
Check with the local park ranger for local hikes and free activities.
-
Step 9
Don’t forget to bring lanterns, flashlights, WARM sleeping bags, and pillows.
-
Step 10
Bring long sticks, chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers for s’mores. The long sticks are so you don’t have to sit too close to the fire. To learn how to make the best s’mores, check out Camping 101: How to Make the Best S’mores.

Step 11
When you are sitting around the camp fire, it is always fun to tell stories and sing campfire songs. At night, you can look up at the stars and try to identify the constellations.
