How to Make a Little Black Dress For Barbie

Barbie has a date with Ken and needs a sleek black dress in a hurry. Make her a quick and easy outfit with three scissor snips on a man's dress sock. The ideal sock? One with a hole in the toe or missing its mate.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• A man's black sock
• Sharp scissors with pointed blades
• Straight pins
• Barbie doll

1. 
    
   Measuring dress length

   How long should Barbie's dress be? Short and kicky? Long and sleek? The stretchy ribbing of the sock will become the dress. Hold the sock's top edge at Barbie's neck and insert a straight pin at the proper dress length on the ribbing.

   Cut across ribbing

   Lay sock flat and cut straight across ribbing at the pin's location.

   Insert scissors carefully

   To cut armholes: Lay cut sock flat. For each side edge of sock ribbing, insert point of scissors about 1/4 inch from top edge and carefully snip along rib about 5/8 inch toward other end.

   Basic dress

   Put dress on Barbie feet first. If armholes are too snug, remove dress and snip again until arms move easily.

   Add a ribbon sash

   Don't forget to accessorize! Tie a ribbon around waist or put a string of beads around Barbie's neck.

   Add an evening wrap

   The unused sock piece may have sufficient ribbing to create a wrap to match the dress. Cut along ribbing and drape wrap around Barbie's shoulders.
