Even screwdriver sustain wear after heavy use. Fortunately it's easy to repair a worn screwdriver tip in just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    First identify the type of screwdriver. In this article we'll go over repairing Phillips, Flathead or standard, and Robertson or square types of screwdriver tips. Often this process is called renewing the tip.

  2. Step 2

    For a Phillips screwdriver first taking metal file particular to the screwdriver and file down the tip a little bit. Now turn the metal file and use the corner to restorr each of the four grooves.

  3. Step 3

    For a standard or flat head screwdriver again file the tip down with a metal file. To restore the blade of the screwdriver to its original width run the metal file at a steep angle along the shaft along the original taper.

  4. Step 4

    For a Robertson or square tipped screwdriver once again file down the tip with a metal file. This time however only slightly file each edge to return it to its square shape.
