1. Step 1) Letting consumers know of your product or service is essential to the success of a small business--that is why writing and implementing a marketing plan is crucial. Not to be too harsh, but if people don't know of what you do (i.e. if you don't have a good marketing plan), your business will fail. Here are some tried-and-true tips in developing a good business marketing plan.

2. Step 2) PINPOINT YOUR CHOSEN DEMOGRAPHIC WITH LASER ACCURACY in your marketing plan. Small businesses can make a very good profit going after a very tiny niche that large organizations would gloss over or entirely ignore--a good marketing plan and vision reinforces this precision. Use this to your advantage. You don't have to market your product or service to everyone in town, just a chosen few who will coming back for more and more of what you have.

3. Step 3) HAVE A REASONABLE FINANCIAL GOAL for your Marketing strategy. Since you are an entrepreneur, everything you do must be goal-orientd. Is your financial goal this month for the marketing $7,000 or $40,000? This is what you must decide before embarking on that goal in your marketing plan.

4. Step 4) What is the MARKETING STRATEGY that you will use to achieve that financial goal? How much business do you expect to receive from craiglist? From a bulk email? From contacts? Make sure that the subcategorize how much income you expect to receive from each marketing tactic you employ.

5. Step 5) BE PATIENT AND TRACK YOUR NUMBERS. Businesses don't grow into large corporations over night so stick to your marketing plan for at least a couple months. Modify the marketing plan as needed to produce the results you want.

6. Step 6) There's one important aspect of a marketing plan that I glossed over that needs to be reemphasized here--IMPLEMENTATION. You can have the best marketing plan in the world, but if you don't implement it, then nothing will happen. Get off your butt and produce the results you desire with your business marketing plan.
