Things You'll Need:
- Completed yoga teacher training program, preferably from a school recognized by Yoga Alliance
-
Step 1
Complete a yoga teacher training program that is recognized by Yoga Alliance. You can find registered yoga schools by doing the following:
1. Go to YogaAlliance.org
2. Click "Registered Schools" from the tabs at the top of the screen.
3. Follow the steps on the page to find a Yoga Alliance registered school.
*You also might want to read, "How to Choose a Yoga Teacher Training Program" in related articles (scroll toward bottom of screen). -
Step 2
Make sure that you choose the right yoga teacher training program. Even though the school is registered with Yoga Alliance, you need to feel comfortable with the yoga school's style, tuition policy, training timeline, trainers and philosophy. Visit their website, call or talk to the yoga teacher trainers and ask other yoga instructors for their opinions about the school.
*To be Yoga Alliance certified, all 200 hours of training must come from one yoga school, so choose your yoga teacher training program thoughtfully. -
Step 3
Know that if you choose a yoga teacher training program that is non-registered through Yoga Alliance, you will have to complete a different application to become Yoga Alliance certified. (See resources for link to this application).
-
Step 4
Make sure you have the following items in order to get Yoga Alliance certified:
1. Completed RYT 200 application (see resources for link)
2. Copy of your certification of completion from your yoga teacher training program
3. A check for $55 for Yoga Alliance ($85 - if outside U.S., Mexico or Canada). All fees must be paid with U.S. funds.
See application page on Yoga Alliance website for more details (link in resources). -
Step 5
Make copies of your RYT 200-hour card that you receive from Yoga Alliance so you can attach them to job applications at gyms and yoga studios. Use your RYT 200-hour after your name on your email signature, resumes and business cards. For example: Your Name, RYT 200-hour or Your Name, RYT 200 (registered yoga teacher).
-
Step 6
Remember to keep up with your continuing education credits toward our Yoga Alliance certification - this is turned in every three years. In addition to your continuing education, you must pay a yearly pay to continue to be listed on the Yoga Alliance website as a Yoga Alliance certified instructor. (See link.)
