Help Your Young Child Adjust to Wearing Glasses

My son got glasses when he was 2. He is now 4. It was a wild ride but he is now used to his glasses and actually likes them. Here are some tips and advice on how you can get a young child to wear his/her glasses.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to your child about it. Make them feel cool and let them know its ok to wear glasses. If they feel like you are not happy with the glasses they wont be either. Dont treat it like a condition but as a normal thing.

  2. Step 2

If there are other people in your family that wear glasses thats even better. You can show them that they are not alone.

  3. Step 3

Make it fun. Let your child dress up and use his glasses as part of the costume.

  4. Step 4

Let him watch shows that have characters with glasses such as harry potter or chicken little, velma from scooby doo and more.

  5. Step 5

Let him pick out glasses that he likes as long as the price is reasonable. If he feels he had a choice in them he will be more interested in wearing them.

  6. Step 6

Now for the advice. Do not buy expensive glasses when they are young. They will go through several pairs. They will get lost or broken and you will constantly be buying new ones. Even if they dont get lost little kids eyes change constantly therefore the prescription might change and you will have to pay for a new pair each time it does.

  7. Step 7

Put them in the same spot every night. That way you always know where they are and they wont get lost. This helps your kid get used to having glasses as well. If he gets used to putting them on everyday and knows where to find them it will become a habit.

  8. Step 8

Clean them regularly. Smaller kids dont really mention when their glasses are dirty they just take them off. If they cant see then they wont want to wear them.
