Cat training is part of pet ownership. If you love your cat and want to train it to behave properly so it doesn't get in trouble, cause damage or hurt someone, the best time to do it is when they are still young. Training cats not to bite is not as hard as you may think. My husband found an abandoned kitten in in his car after school one day when we were back in high school. This cat was so fun and playful, but it had a bad habit of biting hands. This is how my husband trained the cat to stop biting.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start being playful with the kitty and see if it bites you. If the kitty bites you, GENTLY tap her on the top of the nose and say "NO BITE!" then stop playing. This is simple cat training.

  2. Step 2

Repeat step one throughout the day. Play with your kitty and every time the cat bites, gently tap the nose, say "NO BITE" and stop giving the kitty attention.

  3. Step 3

The cat will begin to catch on very quickly. Start playing with the kitty and if you notice her open her mouth around your hand and then hesitate, don't move your hand, look at the kitty and remind her "no bite". You may even raise your other hand with your finger out like you are ready to tap her on the nose if she disobeys. If the kitty stops herself from biting, praise the kitty and give her positive reinforcement such as petting her in the spot that makes her purr or a special treat. Keep giving her attention.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be persistent.
  • Pay attention, are there certain triggers that seem to make your cat bite? Is it just a result of playing too rough and not knowing better or is your kitty telling you he doesn't like what you are doing?
  • If you find you kitty just doesn't like to be petted in certain ways, maybe they don't like their tummy scratch or their neck pet, don't punish the kitty in these circumstances, but rather adjust your behavior so that you are not doing something the cat doesn't like and causing it to bite you.
  • If you get bite by a stray cat, you should clean the area with water antibacterial wipes or soap and rubbing alcohol to clean the area, rinse again and then apply antibiotic ointment/cream. Also call your doctor, because you don't know what diseases wild or stray cats may have. Cat bite infection symptoms may include:swelling and puss coming out of wound, pain around bite area, headaches, fever...
