Prepare for a Musical Theatre Audition
Prepare for a Musical Theatre Audition

Musical Theatre auditions can be a nerve racking experience but they dont always have to be that way. Here is a guide to having a succesful audition!!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sheet Music
  • A Black Binder
  • A pencil
  • Headshot
  • Resume
  • Dance Clothes
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Once you have decided which show you are auditioning for, it is very important that you pick a song that is very similar to the show, and in the same genre.

EX: If you were to audition for Grease, then you should pick an uptempo rock and roll song as aposed to Oklahoma where you would pick a Rodger's and Hamerstien type of piece.

  2. Step 2

Be prepared to sing the whole song but pick 32 bars that show case your voice the best, because that is usually all that auditions ask to see.

  3. Step 3

Make a copy if you haven't already of you sheet music. Make sure it is back to back. Then put it inside a 3 ring black binder. DO NOT BRING IN MUSIC BOOKS!! THEY ARE HARD FOR THE ACCOMPANIST TO TURN PAGES WITH AND THEY COULD JEAPODIZE YOUR AUDITION!

  4. Step 4

With pencil, write in any music notes on the sheet music. Write where you plan to begin, what section is the intro, where you plan to end and any other music notes.

  5. Step 5

Practice, Practice,Practice!!! Sing the song infront of family members or friends to get used to being infront of an audience.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is always helpful if you have a vocal coach or a teacher that can help you fine tune all the technicalites of your song.
  • This is for most musical auditions, but not all of them will follow this procedure.
