Wild animals can be trapped if they are hurt or are hungry without a home. Cats that have been lost and not taken care of can go wild. Sometimes a lost animal may have gotten hurt and need treatment. Raccon's might try to get in your garbage can. They have been know to bite. A good way to catch wild animals is to build a trap. The box trap is easy to build and simple to work.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • wire
  • staples
  • nails
  • hammer
  • wood
  • gloves
  • heavy duty tape
  • rope or string
  • food
  1. Step 1

A box needs to be build from wood and wire. Cut out 3 wood equal squares. Put the 3 (sides and top) wood squares together with hammer and nails.

  2. Step 2

Leave the bottom open measure a piece of wire that will fit here. Put the box in an area where the animal may feel safe like by a bush ,heavy grass or tree.

  3. Step 3

Tilt the wood box up high enough the animal can go under it easily. Support the box in the middle with a wood stick that has buried part way into the ground.

  4. Step 4

Tie a long string onto the stick. Put a piece of meat for a feral cat or a vegetable like a carrot or lettuce for a rabbit. Hide away so the animal won't be able to see you and when they go under the box pull the string quickly. The animal will be trapped.

  5. Step 5

Wearing work gloves carefully slide the wire under the box. With heavy duty tape, tape it on all around the edges. I recommend tying around it with cord or string also. The attach the wire using hammer and wood staples all the way around the wood to hold it on well. Call the animal shelter in your neighborhood and ask them to come pick it up. Do not attempt to take it yourself you might get bitten or scratched.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be very careful when around wild animals
  • Contact the animal shelter right away
  • Leave the animal in a safe shady place
  • Take care not to try to touch or handle the wild animal
