Today, I will be changing out the spark plugs and distributor cap in my Ford Escort. So let’s get started, just follow the steps below to continue.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The tools you will need are a spark plug socket, ratchet, extension, spark plug gap gauge, and a flat tip screwdriver.

  2. Step 2

Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Using a ratchet, socket, and extension, remove the spark plug.

  3. Step 3

Get a new spark plug. Use a gap gauge to check the gap of the spark plug.

  4. Step 4

Install your new spark plug. Always start by hand. Now put the ratchet on it. Put the spark plug wire back on.

  5. Step 5

Now let’s change out the distributor cap. To find it, just follow the spark plug wires.

  6. Step 6

There are two screws that you need to remove. Remove those at this time. Now remove the distributor cap.

  7. Step 7

Remove one spark plug wire at a time and transfer it to the new distributor cap. If you need to replace the rotor, do it at this time.

  8. Step 8

Put your distributor cap back on and you are done.
