Things You'll Need:
- a new cat or kitten
- some creative thinking
- time to watch the new pet
-
Step 1
Watch the new cat or kitten. To me this is a big part in choosing the right name for them. If you are able to know the sex of the cat or kitten this is even better.
-
Step 2
Try calling the cat a name and see if the animal will respond to the name. I do this with all of my new pets. I believe that most animals can help you choose their name.
-
Step 3
Ask for feedback from your family that lives with the new pet. See what the cat reminds you of based on its color as well as it's attitude and or personality.
-
Step 4
Pick the new name and stick with it. Always refer to the animal with it's new name so it can become familiar with it, and there you have it a new name for your new cat.

on 11/9/2009 No matter what we decide to name our pets (cats or dogs) they always seem to find a new name along the way - Siskers was Mr. Whiskers, Poopy Dog was Sandy, Ashes was Peaches - they kinda pick their own names.

on 8/9/2009 Great article! My cats came already named, but I think I would try to use great literature as an inspiration if I had a kitten :) Or maybe names of my grandparents? So many names to choose from, I'm glad my kitties already had names.
