How to Box Train a Ferret

One of many ways to box train your ferret. Ferrets are just as smart as Rabbits if not smarter. Please try as many methods as needed until there trained

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Patience
• 3-4 litter boxes
• Good litter ("Yesterdays news" is one of the best for this.)

1. Setting up the environment . A ferret will choose a spot to go to the bathroom repeatedly all s we as owners have to do is emphasize to use the box! So as i said setting up the environment 2 boxes in the living area (unless the bottom floor of there cage is all a box). Outside the cage they back up into corners and against walls to go potty. once again put a box in that area and emphasize it .

2. Emphasize it how! well that's the tough part ... You must be firm and dominant without hurting them (abuse sucks).When they do bad - do like there mothers grab them by the scruff of the neck then show them the no! no! with a firm voice tell them no ,& bad and put them in there litter box . Do this a few times and or catch them while there trying to go and put them in the area you want them to go .It will stick eventually that is where the patience comes in .When they wake up they usually need to go potty .Praise them when they do good and watch using treats it causes bad habits (fake pooping)and can cause other issues if it's a sugar treat.

   When cleaning the boxes always leave a small piece in there so it will let them know it's still a box when cleaned or they will try to sleep in it."Yesterdays news" is one of the best no dust and no sticking to everything

   I have done this for 5 years now and trust my three ferrets enough to let them run free most the day.

Tips & Warnings

• Repeat , repeat , repeat , keep it up diligence is the key here. Ferrets can get lazy and be full of attitude so a good eye is best just keep showing them and it gets a lot easier everyday! Even when trained a ferret will occasionally miss the box be prepared for cleanup.
• I use "Yesterdays news" for my litter works the best so far and no dust for them to inhale . They already have a lot of problems don't need the litter giving them one.
• Animal abuse sucks being firm and abusive are way different things .(think before you spank)
