Make Fluffy Buttercream Icing
Make Fluffy Buttercream Icing

Want a buttercream icing that is light and fluffy but not too sweet? This recipe isn't overpowered by the sugar. It fluffs up well and has a nice texture.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/2 cups crisco
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 lbs powdered sugar
  • milk
  • salt
  • light corn syrup
  1. Step 1

Mix the crisco and butter together in a stand mixer. Add the vanilla and mix thoroughly again. Slowly add the powdered sugar until all mixed in. The icing will be very thick right now. . . don't panic. Add a dash or two of salt, mix well.

  2. Step 2

Add approximatly 2 tablespoons of milk and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup. Mix well. This part is kind of a "play it by ear" step. You will add more of each if you want to thin the icing. If you want a thicker icing, don't add as much. Beat at medium/high speed until nice and fluffy.

  3. Step 3

The corn syrup helps the icing flow better when piping or writing on a cake. The strings of icing are less likely to break as you move your hand along to write.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you add too much milk or syrup, you can always add a little powdered sugar to thicken it up.
  • Using clear vanilla keeps the icing bright white.
