Teach a Child Their Numbers
Teach a Child Their Numbers

Need some help and suggestions on how to teach your child their numbers or teach the concept of numbers in your preschool classroom? Here are some helpful tips to get you started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

There are great books available about numbers. Read and explore these books with your child reciting the numbers, counting together, etc. There are also great workbooks available to help in learning how to write the numbers as well as the number names and other mathematical skills.

  2. Step 2

Use everyday experiences to reinforce numbers. You can count stairs, count as you pick flowers, have the children cook with you as there are lots of mathematical components in that, stack blocks, count food at snack time and so on. Ask your child how many of something do they see? How old are they and can they count that high?

  3. Step 3

There are many songs that are fun to sing with children about numbers to help them master this concept. There are rhymes as well such as one, two buckle my shoe. Become familiar with some of these avenues to teach numbers. Board games are also great for counting as well as a game like hopscotch.

on 8/10/2009 It's nice to meet parents who are actively interested in educating their children. Singing is a good way to remember lots of things. Good tip.
