Going for a road trip with your pet requires a little planning to make sure that you have everything you need for a safe and fun trip! You can be prepared by storing most of these items in a ready to go tote ahead of time and just adding a few essentials before you leave.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Collar, Tags, and Leash
  • Rope or a chain
  • Plastic bags
  • Two plastic resealable containers
  • Dog food
  • Water
  • Treats
  • Bones
  • A few favorite toys
  • Benadryl
  • Veterinarian's telephone number
  • Flea and Tic control
  • Stylish bag
  1. Step 1

Always put your animal's collar on them including any tags you may have. This is important to have if your pet wanders away. Also bring a leash to take your pet for a walk and to the bathroom at restroom stops along the way.

  2. Step 2

Bring along an extra long rope or chain so your pet can safely explore the new destination.

  3. Step 3

Plastic bags are a must to pick up after your dog at rest areas and at your destination. Afterall, no one anywhere you may travel to likes to step in pooh!

  4. Step 4

Two plastic resealable containers are great to use for dog dishes to store food and water in. You can reuse them or recycle them at the end of your trip.

  5. Step 5

A small bag of treats is always good to have to encourage good behavior. Try to pick treats that won't leave a mess on someone else's carpet.

  6. Step 6

Small bones are a good distraction to give pets on long car trips and in new settings where you may want to explore without them.

  7. Step 7

Bring a few of our pet' s favorite toys but nothing that you would be heartbroken if it got lost or left behind.

  8. Step 8

Packing Benadryl and your Veterinarian's telephone number can be helpful if your pet has an allergic reaction to anything in your new environment or an unplanned emergency occurs.

  9. Step 9

Flea and Tic control is good to have if you are traveling away from the city into wooded areas. Talk to your veterinarian to see which brand they would recommend for your pet.

  10. Step 10

A stylish bag to carry it all in- a must!

Tips & Warnings
  • Pets travel well inside their kennel. This provides them with a sense of security and keeps them calm when doing something out of their normal routine.
