This is a quick easy way to take Jeans or any pants in at the waist. Basically you will be making a "dart" in the waistline.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • straight or safety pins
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Thimble (optional)
  1. Step 1

The best way to measure how big your dart needs to be is with the pants on. then grip waist with your fingers and fold against your waist.

  2. Step 2

Now with jeans off fold half the amount that needs to be taken in on each side of the waistline. Pin each fold on the inside either with straight pins or safety pins. the pins need to be along the waistline. You will create a small amount of extra fabric on the inside of the waist.

  3. Step 3

Thread your needle and sew along the fold. If there is a large dart you will want to sew the portion folded along the top to the waistline as well, it will make it much more comfortable. You can also cut off the extra portion but sewing along the side allows you to take the dart out later.

Tips & Warnings
  • This works best with child's clothing because it is not permanent so you can cut the thread and extend the size back to original as the child grows.
  • It's best to dart on both sides so the button and zipper remain in the correct place when you put them back on.
  • You can put the pants back on between step 2 and 3 to check your measurement but be careful since the pins are in place
  • Jeans can be difficult to push the needle through so this is where the thimble comes in handy.
