There are several types of ticks that plague people and animals. One in particular is the brown dog tick. Once a tick attaches to your dog it will feed by sucking blood out from its skin. There are several types of ticks besides the brown tick type another common one is the deer tick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • tweezers or a commercially tick removal device

    The first step to do is grab the head part of the tick with a tweezer or special tick tool to remove it. Grasp its mouthpart or head area with the tick device and gently pull to remove it.

    Check to be sure that the tick is removed if some of it is still in the dogs skin and it's the head part take the dog to a veterinarian for removal, tick heads can be lodged underneath the skin and an infection can develop.

    Once the tick is dislodge dispose of it either in alcohol or flush it down the toilet. Make sure that it's discarded correctly by the methods above.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always check your dog for ticks if it has been in a woodsy area
  • Always remove the tick with a tweezer or device made especially for this
  • Discard appropriately either flush the tick in the toilet or douse in alcohol
