Herb butters are very easy to make and taste delicious served alongside cooked fish, chicken, or atop a bed of mashed potatoes. Use fresh herbs from your own herb garden, or purchase them from the grocery store, to make an herb butter for a delicious finishing touch to any meal. Be creative and use your own combination of herbs, or try one of these combos: rosemary and garlic butter, cilantro and scallion butter, fennel and lemon zest butter, chives and crushed pepper butter.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 stick salted butter, softened
  • 2-4 tablespoons of herb comination of your choice (see recommendations above)
  • a squirt of lemon juice
  • handful of freshly ground black pepper
  1. Step 1

    Place the softened butter, herb combination of your choice (see recommendations in the above introduction) a bit of lemon juice, and freshly ground pepper in a bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Beat using hand held mixer until butter is evenly speckled with the herbs.

  3. Step 3

    Carefully shape the butter into a roll, cover with plastic wrap, and chill.

  4. Step 4

    After butter has chilled several hours, remove from fridge and serve with a dish of your choice.

Tips & Warnings
  • The flavor of fennel goes well with fish, so try an fennel butter with salmon.
  • Cilantros and scallions go well with mashed potatoes--a great butter to serve with Thanksgiving dinner.
