Mail order nurseries also have to move out their plant material before it outgrows the small shipping pots. So, look for specials and sales to find garden plants cheap.

Grab the leftovers at the end of the season. Whether you live in a climate with one growing season or several growing seasons, you can always benefit from end of the season sales. Perennials are often sold cheap and even some annuals can perk up again if you get them in the ground.
