After the first two months of no sleep and just survival, your baby is starting to interact more. You're excited to play with your baby, but how? Prior to my twins being 6 months old, I found it difficult to know what to play with them. What toys should I get? What would they like?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gymboree's "Baby Play" book
  • Toys mentioned in this article
  1. Step 1

    Start by asking your friends what type of baby toys their babies like to play with. Observe other babies and what they are playing with when you are out and about.

  2. Step 2

    Find a copy of Gymboree's "Baby Play". The library is a free way to check out this book. It is organized by 3 month age intervals and will reset your mind on what it means to play with your infant.

  3. Step 3

    Realize you don't need a lot of toys for this age group. Here are a few of my twins' favorites:

    * Play mat with hanging toys
    * Sophie, the Giraffe
    * Sophie's friends: Chan Pie Gnon Soft Chew Toys
    * Oball
    * Skwish
    * Kick toy (favorite toy of all)

  4. Step 4

    Enjoy playing with your baby!

Tips & Warnings
  • Redefine how you think about "play" for this age group.
  • The library is a great free resource to check out all sorts of books on play.
