Things You'll Need:
- An hour of time and a computer
- Specific details on what you want to promote
-
Step 1
Add your contact information and a heading to show it's a press release at the top of the page and create a catchy headline that explains what you are trying to promote in a fun and informative way. Nothing that will confuse the reader. Keep in mind who your audience is--the media and tie into something that is currently in the news.
-
Step 2
A detailed first paragraph is essential. It should spell out the 5 Ws--who, what, when, where and why. All the crucial information the media will need should be in the first paragraph. The media may only read your headline and first graph.
-
Step 3
Add a few more paragraphs that include quotes, background and bio information on the product, person or event that you are pitching. Make sure to include a web link. A press release never needs to be more than one page. Remember, it's an overview!
