Two slices of crisp, warm bread topped with oozing cheese, you know what I’m talking about – it’s a classic grilled cheese sandwich. When the classic grilled cheese starts to bore, pull out this open-faced variation and enjoy the complex flavors of the cheese combined with mayonnaise and green onions which is broiled to bubbling perfection.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 Cup Cheddar Cheese (grated)
  • 1-2 TBSP Mayonnaise
  • 1-2 Green Onions
  • 4 slices of French Bread
  • Baking sheet
  • Cooking spray
  1. Step 1

Lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking spray and preheat the oven to broil. Place slices of French bread onto the greased baking sheet.

  2. Step 2

In a small to medium-sized bowl mix together the grated cheddar cheese, the chopped green onions, and the mayonnaise. The consistency of the mixture should not be overly moist, only use enough mayonnaise to keep the mixture together.

  3. Step 3

Using a tablespoon scoop the cheese mixture onto the slices of bread and spread it out evenly. Once all of the French bread slices have been topped with the mixture, place the baking sheet into the oven.

  4. Step 4

Broil for 5-8 minutes until the cheese becomes bubbly and very slightly browned on the top. Keep a close eye on the bread as it broils because all ovens cook a little differently and bread can burn easily in the broiler especially around the edges. Allow to cool for 1-2 minutes before placing on a plate to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wheat or other hearty bread may be used with this recipe in lieu of French bread.
