Write a lesson plan that will keep your students engaged and learning and keep your adminstrators happy!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your curriculum pacing guide.
  1. Step 1

    1. Decide the key concept of your lesson.
    2. List things you want your students to know about this concept.
    3. Narrow you focus to the five most important objectives from number 2.
    4. Think about resources to teach the five objectives.

  2. Step 2

Find an object that you can take to class to sit in the front of the room to gain student attention. Decide if you want the students to be able to touch it or not.

  3. Step 3

Have a "bell-ringer" on the board; it can either be a review of the day before or an introduction to today's lesson. As the students file in have them get to work with a personal note from you on the board giving them encouragement and directions. Assign students to heterogeneous groups of four.

  4. Step 4

Set up your room so that all five objectives have a different station. For example: computer based learning, art area, hands on area, reading area, and writing area, all based on your concept and objectives. Explain the directions and areas, set a timer and have the student rotate through the class period. Allow ten miuntes at the end to review, debrief, and refocus for the next day!

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice how to move through this daily. It takes time, but the kids will be busy and management will be down to a minimum.
  • You may see students working like never before! Students like to move and rotate around the room!
