When choosing a diet pill to supplement your weight loss plan, it is important to take a careful look at the ingredient list. If there is more than one stimulant on the list, the diet pill could cause the jitters. Diet pills commonly include several stimulants but name them scientific sounding names in order to confuse the diet pill consumer.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Diet Pill Label
  • List of Stimulant Ingredients
  1. Step 1

Check for common stimulants. The most common stimulants used in diet pills are coffee and any form of tea. Teas are also often included for their antioxidant and fat burning properties. Green tea is a very common diet pill stimulant.

  2. Step 2

Look for the hidden stimulants. After listing all of the common diet pill stimulants, it is time to look for the hidden ingredients that can rev up the heart rate. These often include synephrine, guarana, ephedra and ma huang. If the ingredient list sounds like a science textbook, these ingredients could be synthetic stimulants.

  3. Step 3

Understanding the proprietary formula. Many diet pills will include a list of ingredients under the term proprietary formula. This is a blanket term used to hide the amount of each ingredient in the diet pill. If a supplement does not offer a specific amount of each ingredient, especially stimulants, it may be best to move on to the next supplement.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't understand the ingredient list, research.
  • Never take a diet pill without reading the ingredients.
