Keep Cats Out Of Your Flower Beds
Keep Cats Out Of Your Flower Beds

Have your ever spent a lot of time and money digging weeding and planting a flower bed just to have the neighborhood cats use it for a litter box. I certainly have. Since I love to grow my flowers from seeds this is especially frustrating. Cats will actually dig up your seeds before they get a chance to sprout and they will tear out small seedlings.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crushed Red Peppers
  • Watering can
  • Water
  1. Step 1
    hot pepper
    hot pepper

The first thing you will need is crushed red peppers that you can find in the spice aisle of your local grocery store. Sprinkle the red peppers over the area you are trying protect. You can sometimes buy the peppers at dollar stores if money is an issue as it is for most people these days.

  2. Step 2

After sprinkling the pepper use a watering can to lightly dampen the peppers so they will not scatter in the wind.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle new peppers every two to three days until the plants are large enough for the cats to leave them alone.

Tips & Warnings
  • This will also work for deer or other small animals.
  • The peppers will lightly sting the animals mouth encouraging them to leave the area alone.
  • This is a more humane way to deal with this problem than the store bought sprays that can sometimes be harmful to the animals.
