Things You'll Need:
- Water
-
Step 1
The most popular method to temporarily cure hiccups is to hold your breath. Take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can. That should do the trick. I personally like to hold my breath for ten seconds and count each second in my head. I have had lots of success with that.
-
Step 2
Another good method is to drink a glass of water. Fill a glass full of water and chug it. Take big gulps. The swallowing should get rid of those pesky hiccups.
-
Step 3
Pick out an object in the surrounding area. Focus all of your attention on that object. Think of what you can do with that object. This distraction will take away your attention of the hiccups. Thus, they go away.
-
Step 4
Burping is another great way to cure hiccups. Hold your breath and swallow your air. Then burp as much as you can. If that doesn’t work, chug a glass of water and burp afterward a few times. The burping may affect your throat and stop the hiccups.
-
Step 5
The absolute easiest way to stop hiccups is to let time stop them. Yes, that’s right. Let the hiccups go. Don’t chug water if you don’t want to. They may stick around for a while longer than if you tried a remedy, but why pay so much attention to them?
