If you have a fabric shower curtain, you probably use a plain plastic or vinyl shower curtain liner underneath to keep the main curtain from getting wet. These plastic liners cost only a few dollars, but every dollar saved helps, so why throw something away when it can be saved? Follow these simple steps to clean and reuse your shower curtain liner and save money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the dirty liner from the shower curtain hooks carefully. Be sure not to tear the grip holes.

  2. Step 2

Gather the shower curtain liner up loosely, with the dirty side in, and take it to your washer. Put it in the washer with a load of laundry like towels or, better yet, your cleaning rags. Using at least warm but preferably hot water, fill the washer with water for a large load but make sure the washer isn't too full. Leave plenty of room for gyration and movement of the towels/rags and shower curtain liner.

  3. Step 3

Set the washer to the delicates cycle. You want the plastic shower curtain liner to be swished around, but not too hard or it might tear.

  4. Step 4

Add the regular detergent and wash the load of laundry as usual, except don't use bleach.

  5. Step 5

When the washer has finished its cycle, remove the liner, which should now be fresh and clean and free of all the grungy buildup. Do not put the shower curtain liner in the dryer because, after all, it is plastic and it will melt.

  6. Step 6

To dry the liner, either take it outside and hang it over a fence, porch furniture or on a clothesline, or simply hang it back up on the shower rod and let it dry there as it would after the shower is used normally.

  7. Step 7

If you are careful about taking it down and hanging it back up and you wash it in the delicates cycle, you should get several washes and reuses out of your plain plastic / vinyl shower curtain liner.
