Help an Upset Stomach

There are many different reasons one can get a stomach ache, from over eating to an empty stomach, cramps, pregnancy, side effects from medication, medical issues, certain foods, and so on. However most stomach aches are minor and do not require medical attention. You can try different things at home to help ease a stomach ache and start feeling better quick.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    TAKE AN ANTI-ACID -

When you have a stomach ache on an empty stomach, it is usually caused from stomach acid and taking an anti-acid is the best solution. It will help to neutralize the stomach acid and help you to feel better quickly.

  2. Step 2

    EAT -

Snack on something healthy or eat a meal to help ease a stomach ache. As long as your stomach ache is not from over eating, having a light snack or meal can help to absorb stomach acid and help you feel better. Foods high in fiber have been known to help ease a stomach ache. Some of the best snacks when you have a stomach ache are bland foods. Try one of the following.
    Banana
    Crackers
    Lite soups (no tomato)
    Chicken broth
    Salad (lite on the dressing)
Popcorn (lite on butter and salt)
    Apples
    Toast (lite on the butter)
    Yogurt

  3. Step 3

    DRINK -

Having a ginger-ale or 7-Up can help to get you back on track. The carbonation in both of them helps to ease your stomach and help you burp to release any air in your stomach possibly causing the stomach ache. You can pretty much have any soda and if it is even a little flat it works good as well. Peppermint tea or chamomile tea as well as other herbal teas, are also very helpful for as stomach ache, but drink it warm not hot. Even apple juice is a good choice, but stay away from juices high in sugar.

  4. Step 4

    RELAX -

Take it easy for a little while when you have a stomach ache. Try not to push it and go on like it is not there, this can only worsen your stomach ache. Instead do one of the above and relax for awhile allowing it to work so you can feel better.

  5. Step 5

If your stomach ache lasts more then 24 hours and none of the above work, you should see your doctor.
