Stay away from the fancy ones, the ones that have their favorite band or singer on the cover. The cover is usually pulled back when they write and the decorated school books cost much more when they are designed.

Shop for the school supplies around Labor Day. Supplies are cheap at this time. Most major drug stores and outlets have great sales for notepaper, notebooks, pencils and crayons around that time. The Dollar stores are a great place to buy their backpacks cheap if they use them. Try not to use your credit cards to pay for the school supplies unless you know you can pay the charge bill at the end of the month.
