Paper fortune tellers (also known as cootie catchers) are fun and amusing for all ages, especially when the fortunes are hilarious or unpredictable. The best thing is, fortune tellers are very easy to make! This eHow will provide a step-by-step guide to making your own.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, take a regular sheet of paper. In order to make a fortune teller, you'll need a square sheet of paper. Since most sheets of paper are rectangular, dont' fret! Turning it into a square is very simple. Take one corner of the paper and fold it across, until it touches the opposite side. All the leftover paper you'll need to cut off. Now when you unfold your paper, it should be a perfect square.

  2. Step 2

Next, take another corner and fold it to the corner that faces it diagonally. Unfold your paper - you should have a square piece of paper that has a folded 'X' through it.

  3. Step 3

Take each corner and direct it towards the center, where the middle of the 'X' should be. After doing this with three of the corners it should look sort of like an envelope. Once the last of the four corners is finished, you should have an even smaller square than what you started with. Flip the sheet over.

  4. Step 4

Now, take the corners of this even smaller square and do the same, folding each corner into the center until it looks like an envelope.

  5. Step 5

Now, fold the sheet in half (either horizontally or vertically, it doesn't matter) and practice putting your fingers into it to open it up into the fortune teller shape (This is usually the most didicult part and can take some practice.)

  6. Step 6

Once you've got your fortune teller ready, unfold it all and write your fortunes in (and write numbers, letters, colors, or whatever else you want on the outside flaps of the fortune teller).

  7. Step 7

There are also plenty of cootie catcher or fortune teller templates online. You can google some and print them out for more wacky designs and fortunes!
