Easily Administer Medicine to a Cat
Easily Administer Medicine to a Cat

If you have difficulty giving medicine, either liquid or pill form, to your cat without scratches and bites, you need to read this short article.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • bath towel
  • medicine
  1. Step 1

    1. Wrap your cat snuggly in bath towel, making sure front and back legs are enclosed.

  2. Step 2

Sit in chair with cat in your lap, cats head facing away from you. Lying the cat down slightly face up is also an option.

  3. Step 3

With one hand, thumb and middle finger(plier like motion), press firmly on the sides of the cats mouth/jaw to lock jaw from closing. Tilt head upward towards you.

  4. Step 4

With other hand take dropper that has already been filled to the proper prescribed level and squirt it gentle towards the inside cheek so as not to gag the cat. Pill form, toss pill in aiming for the area just in front of the throat. Release jaw and hold cats head up for several second. You may stroke the throat gently while in this position to suggest swallowing to the cat. After a few more seconds release cat from towel and follow to make sure it did go down.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure towel is firmly but gently containing your animals limbs and is held in place by your body or the animals.
  • Put cat down before releasing it from towel to avoid scratches.
