Recently I had to take a business trip to the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia Pensylvania.

I decided to extend the trip and take my two teenagers with me to make it a family getaway vacation.

I did some research to find family friendly activities and I wanted to share them with you now.

I am spending two days in King of Prussia PA and 2 days in Philadelphia PA.

Enjoy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer to research
  • Time to enjoy yourself
  1. Step 1

First stop - King of Prussia. Staying at Dolce Valley Forge Hotel - Fabulous hotel!!! The pool and spa at the Dolce is amazing! It has shooting water sprays that go over the pool. It was great to relax here after a day out shopping at the King of Prussia Mall or a day at the amusement park! Pool area closes at 11pm.

  2. Step 2

Visit Dave and Busters for dinner! I even love this place. It was created around adults so there is a restaurant and bar and a limit on the number of kids each person can bring with them. This way it is not like a chucky cheese.

  3. Step 3

Going up to Hershey Park to ride the rides and get some hershey chocolates! It is about an hour and 20 minutes from King of Prussia.
Don't forget to take the chocolate world tour too! it is in the building right before the entrance to Hershey Park.

  4. Step 4

Off to Philadelphia - staying at the Loew's Philadelphia Hotel - 5 star luxury and it even has a small pool! The pool is a long 2 lane lap pool.
We went in once. There is free wifi in the lobby or in the pool area. Otherwise you have to pay to connect.

Parking is expensive - 38 dollars a day but we had no choice. This hotel has a great location. Phlash stops right out front. You can walk across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe and the Reading Terminal Market. There is a Dunkin Donuts next to the Hard Rock. You can walk 2 blocks to the Macy's too! Perfect downtown location.

  5. Step 5

Getting an all day pass so we can ride Phlash - the Philadelphia trolley bus system. They have individual and family passes. You can get off and on at any of their stops all day long. The family pass is 10 dollars for 4 people to ride all day long. You can get an individual pass for 5 dollars.

  6. Step 6

Take the PHL Duck Tour. This is the tour bus that turns into a boat. everyone gets a quacker too. Takes alittle over an hour. Kids are excited. This was INCREDIBLE! I highly reccomend this tour. It is worth the 26 dollars per person. We had a blast! We even saw where Will Smith's Dad lives in a waterfront condo!

  7. Step 7

See the Liberty Bell and maybe take the National Treasure Tour or the Constitution Tour. We love history so we will be spending lots of time here.

  8. Step 8

Take Phlash to the 2nd to last stop to the Philadephia Zoo. We always make it a point to tour the local zoo. This one looks awesome!

  9. Step 9

Reading Terminal Market - Our hotel was across the street and we went here 3 times! They sell everything here - They have bakeries, breakfast diners, cheese steak counters, chinese food, fresh vegetables, deli's, flower shops, Amish places, Butchers - you name it and it is here!! It is behind the Hard Rock Cafe on 12th and Market.

  10. Step 10

And...of course...enjoying an original Philly cheese steak sandwich or two! We cannot wait to taste the original tasty treat in South Philadelphia. We tried a few of these. They are gigantic so be prepared - you can easily share one!

  11. Step 11

One of the best things we did was to visit Macy's on Market street by town hall. It is AMAZING! I wonder why no one tells you to check it out??? The building is super old - maybe 130 years!! The architecture is amazing. Inside you will love the molding and super duper high ceilings. There is a gigantic pipe organ that takes up about 40 feet on the second floor up to the top of the dome and they have someone playing it. We went about 730pm and it was amazing to hear the organ music while shopping. There was a crowd that formed downstairs looking up and everyone clapped for the music.

  12. Step 12

And finally - my son wants to visit the south Philadephia skate park. He is bringing along his skateboard and hopes to skate where all the experts have skated before. He is so excited.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan and research your trip to utilize every minute of the day
  • Take enough money or credit cards with you and keep them in a safe place
  • Ask the hotel concierge for advice and coupons too
