Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Importing a used car from Japan to Uganda can be abit hard especially depending from which company you purchase from. With no age limit on cars imported into uganda,it is much likely that you might end up paying for Junk.
1.Deciding on a good road worthy vehicle:
Offcourse on your mind you already know which vehicle you would like to purchase but the problem, you are buying it online. You are not seeing the vehicle practically. The best thing to do is read the car details very well, the mileage: make sure the mileage showing in the car picture is the same mileage indicated on the car details. Usually ask the company to provide you with all the necessary car pictures to check if there are dents or rust. Since there is no age limit for uganda, there is also a possibility that you can find an older car but in very good condition and at the same time a better year of car but junk. Make sure the company has not reversed the mileage. After your choice of car is made.

  2. Step 2

2.Searching for a well versed supplier.
This is not easy since there are very many car exporters from Japan necessary all are big and reliable. Not all companies have stock yards, some buy direct from auctions which is also very good. It is always good to contact the company direct by phone rather than stopping at e-mail, here you are trying to avoid fraud. Check and see if the company appears on directories, and see if there details are consistent. Try ask with in Uganda and see if there are customers who have purchased from that same company and find out there reliability. After determining the company.

  3. Step 3

    3.Making of Payment.
This is the hardest step since either side[ company and buyer] are worried about being cheated. In this case most of the companies will not accept check or credit card payment. Most will prefer telegraphic transfer to bank account. For the customer you have to make sure that you are transferring money to an account in the names of the company not an individual. Bank account details are usually indicated on the Invoice.
After money transfer, most companies will ask you to send a scan or copy of the receipt. Keep the original for your own reference. Depending on which bank the company uses ,a transfer can take a few days to one week for the money to appear in the company account.

  4. Step 4

4.Shipping of your vehicle to uganda.
For shippment, most companies will be shipping only up to Mombasa, kenya depending on how you agree with the company. From Mombasa to Uganda, the client has to hire a local clearing and fowarding agent to bring the car to uganda.
The shipping from Japan to Mombasa is done either in container or roll on roll off. The car export company should tell you the appromate date on which the vessel will be arriving at mombasa.Usually it takes a month from the time the vessel leaves Japan.
By the time the vessel arrives, the car export company should have already sent you documents,of which there must be two original Bill of Lading.
